God's will and Corona

Updated: Jul 6, 2020

New Normal Series

God created a perfect world filled with his goodness, according to his will.

Why did God create everything?

He created everything for his purpose. God intended man’s life to be abundant and without any lack. However, the current situation does not imply this reality. Today’s world is full of troubles, sickness, lack and chaos. Though this is the case, God’s children have His promises to help them escape the troubles of this world.

Why then, are God’s children suffering the same way as others do?

Do the promises in the Word of God still hold good for his children?

Well, God is the same, yesterday, today and forever. His Word has the same power, as it did, ages ago. He who has promised is faithful and just to fulfill it.

Then where is the disconnect? Where are we going wrong that all the promises are not fulfilled in our lives?

Just like how a pilot needs to learn how to fly his plane using the manual, and also the Do’s and the Dont’s, we need to know how to make the promises of God work for us from the Word of God.

The will of God concerning you, is that you prosper, be in health, and not lack any good thing. That's what God has promised you, but to inherit these promises, you need to do something. What you are expected to do is coupled along with these promises. Most of us ignore this part.

Now would you like to know how to identify them?

Listen to this message in which the man of God has rightly divided the promises and presented them, so that you can identify what is expected of you and fulfill them. As a result, you can inherit the promises of God and stay blessed.

God created this world. Why did God make everything?

Proverbs 16:4 The Lord hath made all things for himself:

Ephesians 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

Who is our God?

Our God is the one who makes everything work according to his own plan. You need to understand who our God is. He does not work to fulfill your plan but his will.

According to his plan, He determined that he would create man and give him his own will-power. It was God’s plan, that man should have his own will power and that he should use it to decide what he is supposed to do in this world. However, if man’s will contradicts the plan of God, then he will not have the Power of God working in his favour. Hence, man should be very careful to find the will of God and align himself to it. That is when he can be assured of the Power of God working in his favour.

In today’s scenario, we see that the coronavirus is spreading to many nations throughout the world and victimising as many people as possible. It is attacking the righteous and the wicked. It is weakening the defense system of the body and killing many people. An invisible war is on.

Is it the plan of God that man should be attacked and overpowered by the coronavirus?

Let us analyse, what the will of God is, for a believer concerning the Coronavirus situation.

It is spreading quickly and people are caught unawares. It looks so powerful. Do not stick to what you know but analyse and understand what the scripture says in this regard. You need to be careful that tradition does not block the real understanding of the Word of God. You need to be very clear about the will of God, otherwise you cannot have the faith to make the right moves.

What does the Scripture say?

Exodus 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.

What is the name of your God?

I am the Lord that healeth thee. The Hebrew name, Jehovah Rapha has been derived from this verse. God says that he would not allow any of the diseases that he sent upon the Egyptians to come upon you. Most people just refer to this portion of the scripture, which says - He is Jehovah Rapha, and He will not allow any of the diseases of the Egyptians to come upon me. You are an Israelite. Do you want to know how?

We all know that Israelites are the seed of Abraham.

Galatians 3: 29, And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

According to the verse, they that are Christ’s are the seed of Abraham.

What a privilege it is to know that God will not allow any of the diseases of the Egyptians to come upon us. How comforting it is to hear this promise of God? God is our healer. We are so happy and content with the later part of the verse. However, many fail to understand that the promise mentioned in the later part of the verse, applies only to those who fulfil the first part of the verse. Here, God expresses His two desires or will.

  1. God desires that you should diligently hearken unto his voice and observe to do all His commandments.

  2. God desires that you should not suffer any of the diseases that came upon the Egyptians, for He is the Lord that healeth thee.

However, the second part is interlinked with the first part. It would result from you, fulfilling the first part. It is you who should fulfill the first part. If you implement the first part, then God will ensure that He does His part. You do your bit and then God will fulfil his promise. First part, which is “If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes,” is your role, something that you need to do.

The second part of the verse (I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.) being the will of God, makes it pretty clear that it is not the will of God for Coronavirus to affect the children of God.

When does the second part come into action? When you do the first part without any deviation. If you live your life casually, without understanding the first part, and then expect the second part to come to effect, it is not going to happen. You have to be very careful and you need real faith. We are not dealing with something ordinary, but something highly dangerous. Within two and a half months, over 2.3 million people have been affected. You need to have strong faith. This is not just to deal with the Coronavirus, but also the after effects of the Coronavirus, like layoffs, economic recession etc. You should not be affected by all this. Let’s see what the Word of God says about it.

Deuteronomy 4:40 Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the Lord thy God giveth thee, for ever.

This verse clearly expresses God’s heart for you and your children. He doesn't want you and your children to be affected by the Coronavirus and its after effects. He doesn't want you to be hit by economic problems. Even in Deuteronomy 4: 40, we see that the first part of the verse needs to be understood and fulfilled by us to inherit the second part of the verse. Today, many selectively choose only the second part of the verse and ignore the first part, which is very important.

Let’s see another verse,

Deuteronomy 5:29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

In this verse too we find two desires of God.

  1. God wants you to have a heart which fears the Lord and keeps his commandments always.

  2. God wants it to be well with you and with your children always.

Here too it is evident that the fulfillment of the second desire of God is purely dependent on you keeping the first desire. You need to first have a heart that fears God and keeps his commandments always. Then the Lord will make sure it is well with you and your children. It is very critical that we do our part without any deviation because it results in supernatural protection.

Let us see some more examples on these lines.

Psalm 91:10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Here is God’s will for you, which says no evil shall befall you, neither shall Coronavirus or any other plague come near your dwelling. God’s power is working to fulfill his will. Many of us take this part for granted, however, we need to understand that this is the second part of the will of God. The first part, which is our responsibility, is found in the previous verse.

Psalm 91:9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

We need to ensure that we make the Lord our refuge and the the most High God our habitation. When we do our part, God will engage his angels to fulfill his second will, which is divine protection from all evil. Therefore, we can relax.

Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

God says that the Sun of righteousness will rise upon you with healing in his wings. Can Coronavirus or any other plague attack a person dwelling under the wings of the Sun of righteousness?

However, this happens to be the second will of God in this case and there is a predecessor to it. The first will or desire of God in this case, is that you fear his name. When you fear his name, then the sun of righteousness will rise upon you with healing in his wings. You cannot change God’s nature - He is Jehovah Rapha

Now let's look at similar instances in the New testament.

John 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

Here we see that Jesus healed a person who had an infirmity for thirty eight years. Jesus had a message for him, but did not convey it immediately. We see that Jesus found him in the temple later, and said to him something very important, which will ensure that his healing will be permanent. Jesus told him firmly, do not sin any further, otherwise a worse thing will come upon you. It was Grace speaking to the man. He desired that the man who received his healing should maintain it. That is why Jesus found him and conveyed the important message. It is a serious warning that Jesus gave the man who was healed. Here again two desires of Jesus are evident.

God desires that the man who was impotent for thirty eight years be healed and that the healing is permanent.

God does not want the man to sin anymore.

The healing would be permanent only if he fulfills this desire of God. Grace always counsels us. We need to keep ourselves from sins.

1 John 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

Here again, we see two things,

Whosoever is born of God sinneth not, but keeps himself from sin.

The wicked one cannot touch the person who is born of God and does not sin.

On the contrary if a person who is born of God does not keep himself and continues in sin, then the wicked one will touch him. To deal with the current Coronavirus situation, you need to have an unshakable faith which comes from a proper understanding of the undiluted Word of God. We can substitute the current situation and get a better understanding. He that is born of God sinneth not and the wicked Coronavirus toucheth him not.

First, you have to keep yourself from sin, and then God will ensure that the wicked one does not touch you.

Finally, lets analyse one more verse,

3 John 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

What is the will of God here?

Beloved, I wish that you prosper and be in health, which infers, that you should prosper and be free from Coronavirus.

Your soul should prosper.

Your soul prospering, is your duty, and when you fulfill that, God will ensure that you prosper and be in health.

Now you are clear about God’s will for you. You should prosper and be in health. Your children should also be blessed. The sun of righteousness shall rise upon you with healing in his wings. You will grow like calves of the stall. It shall be well with you and with your children forever. This implies that God does not want you to be affected by Coronavirus. However, for all these to be fulfilled, you need to ensure that you fulfill your part of God’s desire. You need to ensure that your soul prospers. Only when this condition is fulfilled, will you prosper and be in health. He that is born of God sinneth not and that wicked one, the Coronavirus will not touch him or his children. Let's be thankful for the unfailing love of God. Let us therefore be mindful to keep up with our part of God’s desire, so that God will keep his promise for us.
